Business Mgr's Report July-Aug 2021

August 14, 2021

As I sit here and write this article of the Conduit, it is the middle of July, it’s very busy down here at the hall with employment. As of today, there are 215 “A” Construction Journeymen travelers and 20 Telephone Journeymen travelers working in the jurisdiction. The Book 1 and Book 2 lists are empty. The hall has been a walk through for the past two weeks, with job calls going unfilled daily. We are calling all over the northeast for travelers. We are getting a few coming in, mostly from Local 3 NYC and from Local 488 Bridgeport, Connecticut. Most of the Locals we have called also have full employment and are also looking for travelers.

We do not anticipate work slowing down for a while. Even when the Islander Hockey Arena at Belmont starts to wind down, the solar farm in Calverton should start to ramp up. Plus, there are many other jobs starting to break ground and ramping up: Walmart, Target, Avalon Bay, 3 Amazon jobs, 3 big hospital jobs,
lots of schoolwork, and the Third Track project.

We just finished negotiating the Neon Sign contract, which was unanimously ratified by the membership. This makes it the third contract negotiated and ratified this year. It also makes it the third contract this year that we installed the NY paid sick pay law into, for an additional 2% in the Annuity.

The new LED light fixture installation to the union hall should be starting very soon. Delcon Electric has been awarded this project.

Our Local 25 Golf Scholarship Committee has awarded 15 Scholarships to Local 25 members kids bound for college, with each applicant receiving a five-thousand-dollar scholarship this year. Our Scholarship Golf Outing will be held on Friday, October 1st. We are always looking for donations for this great event.

Since we started the Scholarship Golf Outing 3 years ago the scholarship committee has awarded 35 scholarships to Local 25 members' kids to help pay for college.

Please attend the monthly union meetings. We have been raffling off NY Islander tickets, Weber grills and Orca coolers. We are also having a barbecue after the meeting. Hamburgers, hot dogs, barbecued ribs, and plenty of cold refreshments will be served.

Brothers and Sisters, that ends my report for this edition of the Conduit. Remember to work safe, turn off energized circuits, and always watch each other’s back out there.
