Summer is once again winding down and the kids are back to school. We had a great summer for employment with all our members working for the fifth year in a row.
Our 50th Annual Softball Tournament was held on August 21st at Eisenhower Park, Wantagh Park and Baldwin Park. The weather held out all day until the Finals. We had dual winners in both the upper brackets, LU 3A and LU 26 (Washington, D.C.), and lower brackets, LU 3 Seniors and LU 456 (New Brunswick, NJ). Thanks to Chairperson Joshua Margolis for overseeing the weekend, Welsbach Electric for help with the transportation and Able Rental Equipment for donating the generator again. This year’s tournament could not have happened without all the help from our members - active and retired. Special thanks to Thomas Skladel for all the calls he made, the Shop Stewards, the EWMC, the Business Office and Officers, and lastly Chris Callahan for his help running the hospitality tent.
On the volunteer front, we are in the middle of wiring the new Winters Center for Autism in West Babylon. Thank you to Cooper Electric for overseeing the project and Lou Pollizotto, the Foreman. We have had over twenty-five volunteers helping on this job. Special thanks to Tom Lawless and Allen Murphy for taking the lead and organizing our members, including apprentices, to help.
On Sunday, October 3rd, Local 25 took two charter buses to the Jets game. It was a great day; the Jets won. Thank you to all who
helped.
As we enter the home stretch of the political season with all the Nassau and Suffolk County legislators up for reelection, please support labor friendly candidates for public office in town, county, and state governments. Please see the Conduit for Local 25’s C.O.P.E. endorsements. Remember that elections do matter.
In closing, enjoy the fall weather and work safe.
Until we meet again.
